Nose Surgery Just for You
Men seek Los Angeles rhinoplasty for a number of reasons. With the variety of concerns men have about their noses, it's important for me to customize my approach to each surgery. During your consultation, I will take time to discuss your options and perform a thorough evaluation.
Dr. Stoker Explains Nose Surgery
In Los Angeles, nose surgery is also known as rhinoplasty or a "nose job." It's a delicate procedure that requires exceptional surgical skill and artistry. During your consultation, I will perform a full examination to evaluate the proportions of your face and nose. The goal of nose surgery is typically to create a nose that's in harmony with your other facial features. It's particularly rewarding to help patients achieve results that appear natural. Frequently, friends of my patients tell them they look great without even realizing they have had nose surgery.
Techniques
There are a variety of ways to perform rhinoplasty in Los Angeles. The most common are open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. The technique I use depends on the patient's anatomy and goals.
For major tip alteration or revision surgery, open rhinoplasty is usually the best option. With this technique, I place all incisions inside the nose except for a tiny incision on the column of skin that separates the nostrils. This allows me to lift the skin and soft tissue to make precise adjustments. I describe this technique as being similar to "lifting the hood of a car to work on the engine." As you can imagine, it offers more visibility and precision than working only "under the car."
Closed rhinoplasty is a technique that surgeons have been using for many decades. With this method, I place all incisions inside the nose, which is a good option for patients who mainly want to reduce or augment the bridge of the nose.
Many men also have a functional nasal problem, such as a deviated septum, which makes breathing difficult. For these patients, I recommend septoplasty, a procedure that straightens the cartilage that separates the nostrils and opens the nasal airways. Septoplasty can be performed as a stand-alone procedure or in conjunction with rhinoplasty.
A board-certified plastic surgeon with years of experience, Dr. Stoker achieves remarkable results in a caring, compassionate atmosphere.
Candidates
I recommend that my male patients wait until at least age 16 before having rhinoplasty to ensure that the nose is fully developed. The majority of my nose patients are in their late teens and early 20s. However, I'm seeing an increasing number of older patients who have long been bothered by the appearance of their noses. Some have also noticed that their noses have become larger or droopier than they used to be. Regardless of age, improving the form and function of the nose leads to significant improvements in self-confidence. Patients are especially happy when they're breathing more easily, too.
Recovery
Patients recover quickly from their procedures in Los Angeles. Nose surgery splints are placed on the outside of the nose to protect the new nasal structure while it heals. Bruising may last one to two weeks, at which time most patients return to work. Most of the swelling resolves during the first two months, but swelling continues to decrease and appearance continues to improve for at least six months.
Risks
In my experience as a rhinoplasty specialist in Los Angeles, I have found that complications are rare. Possible complications include bleeding, infection and internal scarring.
