Liposuction is one of the most common cosmetic surgery operations in the United States. Through tiny incisions in the skin, fat is removed using small suction tubes (known as cannulas). The key concept with the liposuction procedures I perform in Los Angeles is that fat is selectively removed because it is more loosely attached to the body. Blood vessels, nerves and skin are left intact and the skin then contracts (to some degree) around the patient's newly contoured figure.

Advanced medical and surgical knowledge are necessary to operate safely. Artistic vision and skilled hands are necessary to sculpt beautifully. My experience combining the art and science of liposuction allows me to obtain consistently beautiful results for my patients. Having treated thousands of cases, my liposuction techniques have become refined and rewarding. It's one of my favorite procedures because of the results I'm able to achieve for my patients. The figure enhancements are often quite dramatic.
Sharing my experience with other surgeons has been a significant part of my practice. I've found that teaching and writing about procedures has helped me to become a better surgeon myself. Currently, I teach the course on liposuction for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Each of the courses focuses on patient safety, surgical planning and elegant techniques to achieve predictable outcomes. I've also authored plastic surgery textbook chapters on these topics.

Local anesthesia is acceptable for one or two areas of liposuction, but many of my patients will have liposuction in more than two areas of the body. For these patients, twilight sedation or a "light" general anesthesia administered by a board-certified M.D. anesthesiologist is more appropriate. The choice of anesthesia depends on the extensiveness of the procedure and the areas being treated.
The surgeon performing the procedure is the most important determinant of a patient's results. The technique a surgeon uses also influences the result. The techniques I've found most helpful include: power-assisted liposuction, tumescent technique, and laser liposuction.
A board-certified plastic surgeon with years of experience, Dr. Stoker achieves remarkable results in a caring, compassionate atmosphere.
Recovery from liposuction is much faster than for most other surgical procedures. My patients recover quickly from liposuction and may return to work within a couple of days. Patients see substantial improvements immediately and the results continue to get better over the course of 6 months as the swelling subsides.
The beneficial results of liposuction are permanent. In my practice, I'm pleased to say, many patients go on to lose weight following liposuction because they're inspired by the improvements in their figure. Even patients who gain some weight are likely to look better than they would have without liposuction. Their most troublesome areas are improved either way.
