Most people are familiar with the concept of exfoliation – removing dead skin cells to reveal the healthy cells beneath. This same concept can help you understand chemical peels and microdermabrasion. In Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Marina del Rey, smart patients have realized that these non-invasive procedures achieve optimal results when performed by a skilled skin care professional.
When it comes to microdermabrasion and chemical peels, “do it yourself” just won’t do. To learn more, request a consultation online or call us at

This 27-year-old female had sun damage that was difficult to treat. We used a 20% TCA chemical peel to bring out her glowing complexion and eliminate a majority of her hyperpigmentation.
This 40-year-old female patient wanted to look refreshed and rested. In separate stages, we performed a 20% TCA chemical peel to her full face followed by injections of Juvéderm Voluma and Restylane-L in her tear troughs.
I’ve found that chemical peels are particularly useful for certain skin conditions, including acne, wrinkles, and uneven pigmentation. They are available in a variety of “depths.” The depth of a peel can be adjusted based on the amount of correction needed. As a general rule, the deeper the peel, the more dramatic the results. However, deeper peels also mean longer recovery. While light peels only involve slight dryness or flaking, deep peels can be uncomfortable and may require more than a week of downtime.

Medical microdermabrasion combines mechanical exfoliation with a vacuum to remove dead skin cells. The procedure is surprisingly gentle, without discomfort. My Los Angeles microdermabrasion patients don’t mind coming back for the series of treatments required to achieve maximum results.

Alternatives
Chemical peels and microdermabrasion are a gentle way to achieve a fresh look without a lot of downtime in most cases. Another nonsurgical treatment that can address many of the same skin conditions is an IPL PhotoFacial. It is gentler than laser skin resurfacing and treats sun-damaged skin on the face, neck, chest, and hands. There are also other procedures that can deliver more dramatic results. For the most significant, longest lasting improvement, surgery (such as a face lift or eyelid surgery) may be the best choice. For wrinkle reduction that is still non-surgical, BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® or injectable fillers might be a good fit.
