When men and women from Los Angeles and Santa Monica consider liposuction, they often want to know how long recovery will take. I’m pleased to say that, due to the experience I’ve gained through performing thousands of procedures, my patients are often able to start getting back to their normal routines in 24 to 48 hours.
This 27-year-old woman already had a nice figure, but she was bothered by small fatty bulges that were obvious in certain clothing. Losing weight didn't make sense for this patient because she was comfortable at her current weight and felt that if she lost more weight through diet that her face and neck would look too lean. Instead, she began looking... Read More
This 23-year-old woman from Europe wanted to refine her figure, but since she is a model, she was worried that her face and neck would appear undesirably too thin if she were to lose more weight through diet and exercise. She came to Dr. Stoker's practice to find a Los Angeles plastic surgeon who could help her achieve the look she wanted without... Read More
Having performed thousands of liposuction procedures during my career, I have refined my techniques to be as gentle as they are effective. In fact, as a co-investigator in a major stem cell research project at UCLA, we found that greater than 90% of the fat cells I remove with liposuction are still alive in the lab after 96 hours. This surprisingly high fat viability confirms that my fat removal techniques are quite gentle for the cells and for the patient.
Educated at some of the most elite institutions in the country, Dr. David Stoker uses his highly advanced knowledge to ensure that each patient achieves beautiful, harmonious results — whether it's through a simple non-surgical procedure or a more advanced surgical transformation. The key to rapid recovery from liposuction is utilizing a technique that gives me a high level of control while causing minimal tissue trauma. That’s why I perform PAL, or power-assisted liposuction, whenever possible. The system uses a cannula (tube) that vibrates gently to loosen fat cells and suction them away with minimal disturbance to surrounding areas.
Additional steps I take to ensure rapid recovery include:
Strategic operative planning, with careful consideration given to achieving the best possible result with minimal recovery time
Gentle, efficient and precise techniques that minimize bruising and swelling
Compression garments that help skin and underlying tissues re-adhere
Arnica Montana supplements to minimize bruising
I’ve been using PAL systems for more than a decade, having conducted studies on multiple generations of models. Because I’m an instructor in modern liposuction techniques, I have used almost all of the technologies in liposuction as they become available. PAL remains my favorite technique due to numerous advantages. It allows a high level of precision, minimal impact on nearby tissues, and less bruising. This means faster recovery for my patients.

Men and women who are good candidates for 24-hour recovery liposuction surgery include those who are in good health and do not smoke. Rapid recovery is most easily achieved for patients needing treatment on a few targeted areas rather than removal of large volumes of fat.
