Fat grafting in Los Angeles, commonly referred to as fat transfer or fat injections, has become extremely popular. As surgeons have improved fat grafting techniques, many patients have developed an appreciation for using their own fat to enhance droopy or flat areas of the body and restore youthful appearance.
Let's face it: most of us have unwanted fat in some areas. Fat grafting is a minimally-invasive procedure that removes fat from common problem areas like the abdomen or thighs and transfers it to other areas that benefit from augmentation, such as the buttocks or face. For many men and women in Los Angeles, fat grafting is a highly effective, modern body contouring procedure to restore or enhance fullness. This treatment can also be used to revise unsatisfactory liposuction results performed by other surgeons.
As you consider whether fat grafting is right for you, it's important to know that I have performed thousands of fat sculpting procedures. I share my expertise in this area with my colleagues through courses, textbook chapters, and journal articles I've published. I'm also pleased to share this information with you in a consultation in my office.
I use power-assisted liposuction (PAL), a gentle, effective technique for removing fat that doesn't damage individual cells. For fat grafting, PAL is superior to other fat removal techniques such as laser, which destroys fat cells. Because my techniques with PAL are gentle, the fat cells have a high survival rate, ensuring the highest quality fat for transfer.
After removing the fat, I purify and inject it into the desired location using tiny cannulas at multiple anatomic levels. Plumping up the skin at varied levels achieves the best results for contour and fat survival. While technique is critical, it is also important for the surgeon to have the eyes and hands of a sculptor to achieve the most beautiful results.
The best candidates for fat grafting and transfer have ample fat in unwanted areas and moderate skin elasticity. This is best characterized as skin that "snaps back." In most circumstances, mothers are excellent candidates for this procedure and find it to be a relatively simple way to fight the early signs of aging while recapturing their pre-pregnancy curves. Typically, this procedure is not the best option for patients who have experienced dramatic weight loss.
Fat grafting in Los Angeles is performed in a surgery center. Patients may return to work within 1 to 2 days but will have some soreness that lasts a couple of weeks. The swelling that is visible typically accentuates the final long-term result but is still attractive. Most patients experience minimal bruising.
Risks are extremely low, in my experience, but could include infection or contour irregularities. The technique of the surgeon is critically important in decreasing risks and achieving the best outcome. Please do your homework to be sure you're selecting a highly credentialed surgeon to achieve your goals.
