5 Questions to Ask at Your Post-Weight-Loss Plastic Surgery Consultation

A patient discusses procedure options with their doctor before getting surgery.

When I consult with people about plastic surgery after weight loss here in Los Angeles, my goal is to answer any and all questions to make sure each person feels informed, empowered, and excited about their next steps. While no question is off-limits, there are a few key topics that are always worth bringing up during the conversation.

Here are a few questions you may consider asking at your consultation to make sure you’re as prepared as possible for your experience.

How much will my post-weight-loss surgery cost?

Plastic surgery procedures performed after massive weight loss are highly customized, depending on the degree of correction needed and the number of areas being treated. Because of this, pricing varies greatly, and it’s difficult to provide an estimate without discussing your specific goals.

Toward the end of your consultation, you should receive personalized information about your expected costs that takes your custom combination of procedures into account.

Where will my surgery be performed?

It’s important to be familiar with your surgeon’s chosen facility, whether that means a hospital or a private surgical center. The facility should be accredited and equipped for body contouring plastic surgery procedures.

I perform surgical procedures in our AAAASF-accredited surgical center. This accreditation reflects our up-to-date equipment, high safety and sanitation standards, and our use of anesthetic administered only by a board-certified anesthesiologist.

How much recovery time can I expect after post-weight-loss plastic surgery?

Like pricing, recovery time also varies depending on the procedures that are included in your surgery. Your consultation is a great time to ask about this and make sure you’re fully prepared for your expected downtime.

One of the main benefits of combining multiple body contouring surgeries into one is that you’re able to recover from them all at the same time. This saves you weeks of recuperation and allows you to achieve a comprehensive transformation while still returning to your normal routine as soon as possible.

Which procedures should I include in my post-weight-loss surgery?

Some people notice more excess skin on certain areas of their bodies than others. I offer procedures that can help contour most areas of the body, essentially from head to toe, but most people don’t need them all to achieve an ideal result.

Your consultation is the time to talk in-depth with your surgeon about which areas would benefit most from surgery. Be honest about your goals and concerns as you work together to formulate a custom plan.

What results can I expect after post-weight-loss plastic surgery?

Feel free to ask your surgeon any questions you may have about your results, from when you’ll see them take shape to how long they’re expected to last.

Your surgeon should provide plenty of before-and-after photos and point out cases that are close to your body shape and desired results. It’s important to have realistic expectations heading into surgery, and these photos will give you a clearer idea of what your outcome will likely be.
