It’s 2020—A Lot Has Changed in 10 Years

It's 2020, take a look at how cosmetic trends have changed in the last 10 years.

The aesthetics field is constantly changing with new techniques and treatments coming to the market. Our team at my Los Angeles plastic surgery practice takes pride in offering the latest, proven procedures that help patients look their best, often without surgery’s downtime.

The past decade has been especially dynamic—particularly when it comes to nonsurgical rejuvenation procedures. It may be hard to believe, but the FDA approved the first JUVEDERM® filler to treat facial wrinkles and lines in 2010. KYBELLA® arrived only 5 years ago. Even techniques that date back hundreds of years, such as microneedling, seem new because of their enhanced popularity.

One thing you can be sure of—we’ll continue for the next 10 years and beyond to offer innovative procedures that improve our patients’ appearances in ways that look natural. In this blog post, we’ll focus on the aesthetic trends we see for 2020 and highlight some of the procedures we’ve gained in the past 10 years.

What’s Trending in 2020?

Procedures or trends we expect to increase in popularity include:

  • Subtle enhancements: Get ready to hear a lot about “tweakments” in 2020. Instead of procedures that produce dramatic changes, subtle surgical and nonsurgical treatments are in demand. Lip lifts are an example. This procedure removes a small strip of skin from under the nose to help balance the proportions between the upper lip and the number of teeth shown when smiling and not smiling. Microneedling is another “tweakment” that our patients request with increasing frequency because of its effectiveness and subtlety.
  • Jawlines are having a momentInstagram and other social media platforms have made people hyperaware about their jawline angles. Fillers are the treatment of choice. RADIESSE®, a filler made with calcium hydroxylapatite rather than hyaluronic acid, is thicker and more suitable for creating the jawline definition patients want. Another treatment that can enhance the jawline is KYBELLA®, an injectable procedure that minimizes the appearance of a double chin by reducing submental fat. Our skilled team of nurses and licensed aestheticians set our practice apart when it comes to getting the type of results patients want with these subtle, less invasive procedures.

  • Bigger isn’t always better: Women considering breast augmentation are opting for smaller breast implants than in the past, wanting results that look natural and in proportion to their bodies. It’s not that patients don’t want enhanced cleavage, but the overdone look that was fairly popular 10 to 15 years ago isn’t as desirable these days.

These are just a handful of trends we see emerging in 2020 and beyond. BOTOX® is being used more often by younger patients to delay the onset of wrinkles, and cosmetic tattooing is increasingly popular. To learn more about these treatments and how you can benefit, contact us using the online form to request a consultation or call our Marina del Rey office at (310) 300-1779 to schedule an appointment.
